Brasil Telecom

Brasil Telecom provides local wire line services and national long distance services as a concessionary in region II. This region includes the Brazilian states of Acre, Rondonia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins, Goias, Santa Catarina, Parana, and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the Federal District, in an area of 2,859,375 square kilometers, which represents 34% of the Brazilian territory. The company also has authorisation to provide those services in the remaining Brazilian regions (regions I and III), as well as international long distance services all over the country. Brasil Telecom has 10.7 million fixed lines installed, 296,000 public phones and also the second largest broadband basis in Latin America.

With the commercial launch of Brasil Telecom GSM, Brasil Telecom added another service to its portfolio and became a multiprovider of telecommunications solutions offering a whole range of telecommunications services including fixed-line and mobile telephony, data communications, Internet connectivity and services, data center, and other value-added services. Brasil Telecom GSM reached over 1.0 million mobile customers in only six months of operation (October 2004 to March 2005).

Fixed-mobile services bring to Brasil Telecom the opportunity to generate revenue and act as a 'one-stop-shop' for fixed and mobile customer needs. Besides the Convergent services and plans already launched, Brasil Telecom is aiming to have in 2005 the Convergent terminal, being able to let mobile phone calls be routed over land-line networks at significant cost savings and allowing new data services for their users.
